September 2006

next month

Fri 1

Night on the town at The Hallion
Fun night out.

Sun 3

Brunch at Cambridge Bar
A bit of change from our last brunch at Harvey Nix, it’ll be heaven for our beer afficiandos. Cambridge Bar won the Campaign for Real Ale's Pub of the Year award in 1999 and continues to be a haven for people who appreciate a good pint! On the food side it’s gourmet burgers galore. The Cambridge Bar's amazingly big and delicious burgers will be just the tonic for those of us who are slightly hungover. The Cambridge Bar definitely gets the thumbs up!

Wed 6

Go karting Grand Prix
Live life in the fast lane! We had our own grand prix which included 4 heats for every driver and semi finals and final for top drivers. This was followed by prize presentations for winners. A great atmosphere and fun night out.

Sun 10

Graypaul's Invitation-only Grand Prix Fayre
We enjoyed TV coverage of the Italian Grand Prix on a TV and sound system supplied by Bang & Oulfsen, a giant scalectix track, unappointed test drives in Ferrari Maserati cars with professional suparcar driving instructors. F1 cars, Ferrari Mazeratis and vintage Bentley cars on display. Spa pool and massages with food and drink served by Gullianos.  The champagne was flowing and a fantastic time was had by all.

Night on the town
Twenty-eight of us hit the town for a fun night out starting at Whighams and ending at The Jamhouse with some questionable dancing.

Mon 18

Chocolate Connoisseur Evening
It was chocolate heaven. These are so popular that Coco’s dates for 2006 sold out. We had a private tasting where we learned to discern different cocoa beans and enjoyed a glass of French Banyulus, a rich French Grenache, regarded by chocolatiers as the only true accompaniment to chocolate. We have found however, that there are many things which go exceeding well with chocolate... Can you think of a better way to spend a Monday evening?!

Mon 18

Wed 20

Comedy Night in aid of Charity
The Stand is Scotland's premier comedy venue. We had a riotous line-up and a laugh for a good cause! All proceeds went to YWCA Scotland

Walk in falkirk
A 2 hour walk which started outside Union Inn by Lock 16 of the Forth & Clyde canal. We saw the  Battle of Falkirk monument (where William Wallace was beaten by Edward I troops), sections of the Antonine Wall (built in AD142-3 to mark the northern boundary of the Roman Empire) and of course the Falkirk Wheel.  We spent a bit of time at the wheel and finished off with a meal back at the Union Inn.  Car-share available from Edinburgh city centre.

Two at Festival Theatre
The award-winning comedy of the season, starring two of Scotland’s finest comedy actors Elaine C Smith and Andy Gray. Written by Jim Cartwright writer of Little Voice.  The Sunday times described it as “A Brilliantly, surrealistically and comically poetic piece”

A great night out as Smith and Gray came together on stage for the first time since their smash hit The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband which preceded Gray’s fabulous performance in the recent highly successful Scottish tour of the West End hit Stones in His Pockets.

Thurs 28

Mueck Exhibition
Incredibly lifelike sculpture.

Thurs 28

Private launch at Ligne Roset
Drinks canapés and utterly gorgeous furniture.  The new shop at Ocean Terminal is definitely worth a visit.  While there sipping pink champagne, we were wowed by culinary delights from Appetite Direct.  As you can imagine we’ve sampled rather a lot of canapés and one does get rather blazé but I have to say Appetite Direct’s imaginative approach and pure deliciousness sets them apart.

An exciting game as the old rivals went head-to-head followed by a few drinks afterwards.

Fabulous ceilidh at Pollock Halls

A trail around some of Edinburgh’s most interesting and beautiful buildings but with a twist.  Following the success of the Cow Hunt we had a ‘building hunt’ with the usual fab prizes!
